Nannup Community Resource Centre (CRC)
(Finalist in "Leadership in a Project" Award)
The Nannup Community Resource Centre outgrew their premises and through dedication and hard work have secured their own property to continue serving the community in the areas of education, training, government services liaison, volunteering and through developed partnerships with local government and not for profit organisations. After the closure of the TimeWood Centre, the Nannup CRC were inspirational in their leadership and simply began preparations for sourcing their own premises. A combined effort of Management, staff, and supportive community member enabled development of a governance model, planning, selection of a new site, submission of funding applications, negotiations for a loan with the Shire and ongoing fundraising. It took in excess of 650 volunteer hours to get the new CRC to this point, the completion of the first two stages in a four stage project. Throughout the CRC network there are only 2 organisations who own their own properties. In the midst of all the planning, the CRC’s role continued to grow with partnership projects developed with the Shire, new infrastructure purchased and new TAFE and lifestyle courses presented. The new CRC building offers the opportunity for community organisations to have a main street presence and makes facilities available to seniors, students, the unemployed, users of Government services and residents needing training facilities and video conferencing facilities. Community organisations that need meeting rooms and visiting professionals can now be accommodated. Visitors to the region benefit from banking, internet and Skype. (click image for larger view)
