The Southern Region Community Leadership Strategy acknowledges and recognises community leaders across the Peel,

South West and Great Southern regions. The forum provides the opportunity for people to connect with other community

leaders, to hear inspiring and challenging keynote speakers, to share experiences and discuss barriers and solutions to

community issues. The Forum provides inspiration and motivation for community leaders - “the buzz”. The Southern Region

Community Leadership Strategy encourages trust and partnerships between community groups to support one another in

dealing with community group issues – eg dealing with difficult committee members, overcoming negativity within

communities, accessing funding for projects, building on successful projects and incorporating them into other communities.

The strategy aims to increase the capacity of community members to develop their own leadership programs, to outline

their own needs and how these should be met with support and partnerships from government and corporate people.

SRCL strategy objectives are:

  • To create and maintain strong, vibrant communities by strengthening leadership development in the Southern Region

of Western Australia

  • To initiate a range of programs to support existing and emerging community leaders through skill development, mentoring,

recognition and networking opportunities

  • To promote networking between communities through sharing of information,
  • To conduct community forums focused on community capacity building in the region
  • Develop innovate tools to link people and skills around the southern region and provide leadership information
  • Celebrate leadership initiative through the annual leadership awards
  • Continue to pursue partnership arrangements which are socially inclusive
  • Assist communities and volunteers to reach their full potential

We ensure our relationships with external bodies by:

  • Identifying people who are directly involved and interested in developing community leaders in regional towns
  • Having a common goal to assist in the capacity building and sustainability of good community leadership
  • Acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of individuals and community groups in the region through the awards

process

  • Showcasing our organisation to a wide range of participants including youth, Indigenous groups, community, government,

corporate and sponsor representatives

  • Provide inspirational and motivating annual Forum showcasing regional success stories with local flavour which is a well

promoted and widely publicised event and the largest gathering of community leaders in the region

2008 breakfast meeting
