Why did we choose the theme “Celebrate”? Whether you belong to a small or large regional community or group, many people work extremely hard to make our communities great places to work, live and play. The SRCL group recognises that sometimes people forget to pat themselves (or each other) on the back for all that hard work. The 2010 Leadership Forum was an opportunity for regional communities and individuals to “CELEBRATE”, share, acknowledge and learn about all the wonderful diverse community achievements and projects that make the Peel, Great Southern & South West regions so special. The 2010 Annual Forum was held over 2 full action packed days, running on the 16th and 17th of September with an additional skills training day as an option on the 15th of September. Skills Training Day 15th September Stream 1 – Are you double clutching before burnout? How many interruptions occur in your day? How organised is your desk? Most of us spend 11 hours or more in meetings while managing 600% more information than 20 years ago. This workshop gave practical tools and tips on how to avoid burnout. Stream 2: The Facilitators Bag of Tricks Have you always wanted to do it but never known how? This workshop offered practical simple tools and tips for effective facilitation including: Ice breakers, energizers, methods of presentation, closures. Afternoon session: Jason Clarke from Minds At Work Jason builds capacity in organisations by working with leaders on topics such as: building an innovative culture, how your head works and why sometimes it doesn’t, change surfing, the joy of problems. The Forum 16th and 17th September The Forum committee planned the program to inspire and build your community capacity, with passionate key note speakers, diverse skills workshops, hands on activities and numerous networking opportunities that ensured everyone attending learned or gained something valuable that they could take away, implement or share with their community and/or group. This included keynote speakers Jason Clarke and Peter Dhu. Workshops topics had something new for everyone- such as presentation skills for the mortally terrified, a laughter workshop, personality typing through colour, an Alcoa district environmental tour, learning about funding and acquittals, dance therapy and experiential team games at the Nanga Bush Camp. The Southern Regions Community Leadership team is committed to bring the Forum to a different regional community each year. Last year’s Forum host community was Denmark in the Great Southern. This year it’s Waroona turn in the Peel and 2011 the Forum will be hosted in the South West region at Balingup. The group also ensures that the host community benefits from the event, so where possible resources and skills to run the Forum are sourced locally. This means that the Forum takes on it’s own unique local flavour. The Annual Leadership Awards are held at the Forum and are part of the Forum celebrations. The Awards are held to encourage emerging leaders. Collectively we can show our appreciation of all people working in a voluntary and paid capacity in the Southern Regions. This year all Awards nominees and their stories were acknowledged in an Awards booklet. Short listed nominees in each category were invited to present their project story to the audience who then voted for the award nominees. Wild West Celebration Dinner topped off one action packed cross regional pow-wow with special guest entertainment and the presentation of Leadership Awards winners. Then it was time to kick up our heels and “celebrate”!
